Anderson Cooper is seen arriving at the 13th annual ‘CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute’ at the American Museum of Natural History, in New York on Dec. 8, 2019. The silver-haired anchor kept his usual black glasses on, and sported a black suit jacket with a purple tie.

Anderson Cooper was born on June 3, 1967 to socialite and fashion designer Gloria Vanderbilt and writer Wyatt Cooper, who tragically died after an open heart surgery at just 50 years old. Anderson was the second child for the couple, after his brother Carter, who he also lost to suicide in 1988. After graduating from Yale University in 1989, Anderson pursued a career in broadcast journalism. As a freelancer, he hustled to sell news segments from around the world to Channel One, going on several years later to ABC as a reporter. At the network, he also served as host on the 2000 reality series ‘The Mole’ before going back into the news realm. He eventually joined CNN in 2011, where he landed his own series ‘Anderson Cooper 360°’ two years later.
